Day 82: Friday, April 8, 2011

We once again opted to save money when it came to this trip, so we came Friday morning instead of Thursday night.  This way we wouldn't have to pay for a hostel Thursday night.  So we selected the 7am flight on Friday morning.  Which meant we had to leave the house at 4am.  Which also meant we couldn't even take the metro to Centrale because the metros weren't even running!  So I set my alarm for 3:30am, got ready, and called for a cab to take us to Centrale at 4:00am.  We arrived to Centrale and hopped on the first bus to the airport.  We completely overestimated the amount of time we needed to get the airport.  Usually it takes us about 30 minutes to get to Centrale from our house when we take the metro.  But when its 4:00am and you're in a cab, it takes about 10.  And usually it takes about an hour to get to the airport, but once again when there is zero cars on the road, it takes about 40 minutes.  So we ended up arriving to the airport super early.  So we laid on the ground and half way fell asleep waiting for our flight.
On the way to the hotel
We landed in Ibiza around 9:30am.  We hopped in a cab and paid 25E to be dropped off at our hotel.  When we walked in, there were a couple people in line at the front desk.  We waited for a couple seconds, then got a waft of breakfast smelling foods and decided to follow the scent.  It took us downstairs to a decent looking buffet.  We grabbed some food and started munching on it while walking around and checking out the scene.  We didn't really realize who sketchy we looked until we saw the manager approaching us looking very angry.  We both still had our backpacks on, and we just walked in from the streets, went downstairs and started snacking. Oops.  Apparently that's frowned upon.

How perfect :)
We went back upstairs and checked in.  Immediately upon walking into our room, we were disgusted.  The room smelled like an ash tray, there were were spiders and ants crawling on the floor, and the bathroom looked like it hadn't been cleaned.  We turned around and went back to the receptionist.  I told her Emily had really bad asthma, so that room wasn't going to work because of the smell.  She told us another, "better" room would be better in an hour.  So we put hour stuff down and decided to walk around for a bit.  We were very close to a beach, and it was so nice to see white sand and crystal clear water!  I loved it!  We walked up and down the shoreline, then decided to get a drink.  When we walked into the bar, the servers were a little perplexed when we asked for a cocktail.  Afterall, it was only 10am, but we had already been up for almost seven hours, so we deemed it appropriate.
Pretty Ibiza :)

We hung out for a bit then went back to the hotel.  She gave us the key to the new room, which might as well have been the same room as before.  It still smelled terrible and was disgustingly dirty.  At that point, we figured we had no better option, so put on our bathing suits and left to meet Casey and her friend Katherine at a beach across town.  However when we found a cab, he told us it was going to be over 30E to get to the beach they were at.  That would have been 60E in cabs round trip, so we reluctantly got out of the cab.  We called Casey and told her we weren't coming, and that we'd just have to meet up that night.  However, being the awesomely nice person that she is, she told us to just grab our bags and just come stay with them.  That way we wouldn't have to pay for cabs all weekend long, we'd all be together!  So we went back to our hotel, canceled our reservation and headed off to Playa Cala Nova to meet them!  It did end up costing us about 30E to get there, but it was definitely worth it.  They had found this practically secluded beach behind a resort that was breathtakingly gorgeous.  There were full reclining chairs for us to lay on and everything.  We spent the afternoon hanging out together while laying on the beach.  It was so nice!  I loved every second of it.
At lunch in Ibiza
For lunch we ate at a restaurant that was on top of the cliff right next to the beach we were at.  The prices were surprisingly cheap for its location and view.  I got a sandwich for 3E.  However, (and this is a bold statement because we have some pretty horrendous service since I've been here) it was the worst service I have ever had in my entire life.  The waiter blatantly ignored us for 30 minutes.  We sat down and looked at the menus for about 5 minutes, then were ready to order.  He brushed right passed us umpteen times without even acknowledging that we were there.  We would wave at him, say "excuse me" when he walked by, and he would completely ignore us.  There was a couple that sat down after us that was done eating before we were even attended to.  It was such BS.  We were so mad.  I finally went up to him while he was clearing dishes off another table and told him to come take our orders.  He reluctantly did but continued to be rude to us the entire time we were there.  Our food came before our drinks, and my order was wrong.  If it didn't have such a spectacular view, we would have left.
Casey and Katherine hiding their fragile skin from the sun!
Casey and Katherine had gotten to Ibiza the night before.  While they were out, the might a man named Jesus (pronounced hey-sus, obviously).  And he was the nicest man in the entire world.  First of all, he knew everyone on the entire island, and everyone loved him.  They said he got them free drinks and food all night, and offered to drive them home and everything.  I know this sounds creepy, but it wasn't like that at all; he was actually a genuinely nice person!  So Jesus was at the restaurant we were at helping them set up umbrellas (because he is just such a nice guy) and he got us all a free found of drinks!  I think our server was so mad at him because clearly he hated us, but it was so nice!  We hung out at the restaurant for awhile, drinking our drinks and talking to Jesus.  And we all got so sunburned!!  At one point I looked around and every one of us had some cloth covering some part of our body that was just absolutely frying.  It was bad.  After about two hours, we decided we needed to get out of the sun!  So Jesus called us a taxi and we took it to their hotel.

They got far luckier than we did.  Apparently the front desk at their hotel put them in the wrong room by accident, and it was a major upgrade.  They had a room with two full bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a living room, a full kitchen, and a balcony.  It was the best room we had seen since being here!  We took a shower, walked across the street to the supermarket and grabbed some dinner, then took a much needed power nap.  We woke up around 8:30, ate the disgusting hotdogs we had bought for dinner, then went to meet Jesus at a bar!  We all drank for a little, then he drove us to a club called Face Time.  It was about 25 minutes away, so it would have been such an expensive cab ride; Thank God for Jesus!  He then got the bouncer to wave the 30E per person cover charge and got us all in for free.  I can't imagine paying 30E to get into a club!  He told us that during in-season, its 50E cover charge, and to reserve a table at the club...it's 3,000E for a four person table!  We knew Ibiza was a party island, but that's a lot of money for a night out.  He told us that last summer Leonardo DeCaprio and Mariah Carey were regulars.  I guess those prices are more for the rich and the famous!  The club was huge; there were probably 20 different bars, 10 different dance floors, umpteen different rooms and lounges, rooftop bars, etc.  They weren't all open because it was the off season but I can only imagine how crazy that place gets when July hits.  We hung out and danced for awhile, then Jesus take us home around 4:00am.  He had to work at 8:00am, but he waited there until we were ready to go home so we didn't have to take a cab!  Like I said, such a nice man.
