This morning we went to Consumer Behavior from 10 - 1, like we will every Wednesday until May. The teacher is so cool, we all love him. And the class has a very lax environment. Our homework assignments consist of going to different stores and observing things such as: the way we were treated by the staff, the cleanliness of the store, the organization of the products, the ease of checkout, etc. It's much different than any class I have taken at Virginia Tech, it's way more hands-on. And we spend the actual class session just discussing people's different experiences in the stores; I really enjoy it, it's actually kind of fun :)
After class, we headed to the Center to get some snow gear for our trip this weekend! We leave on Friday morning for the Italian Alps. I was trying to spend as little money as possible, so I got the bare minimum as far as equipment. I brought a water resistant coat, so I figured I could wear that, so I just purchased some snow pants and gloves. And, naturally I'm going to try to return the snow pants after I wear them :)
Afterwards, we came home, made dinner, then got ready for International Night at Old Fashion! Emily and I walked over to the other girls apartment and hung out there before we headed out. Once again, it was packed, and it was a blast! The 10E to get in plus 2 drinks is really awesome. There were thousands of people there singing and dancing all night, so we jumped right on the bandwagon! We stayed till around 5, then headed home. And from there, the night went way down hill. We caught a cab right outside the
club just like everyone else who was leaving did, and caught a cab that looked just like all the others. There were 4 of us, and 2 of us were going to one place, and the other 2 were going to another place. The cab driver was super nice the whole way home, joking and laughing with all of us. However, when we got to stop number 1, he flipped like a switch and got so angry when we asked him to take a couple of us a little further. I was sitting shotgun, and he turned and shoved me forcefully with both hands out of the cab. The girl in the back was getting her money out to pay him the 10E cab fare, but he turned around and grabbed all the money that was in her hands, which was 50E. Naturally, she started screaming at him, and refused to get out of the car until he gave it back. But then he started driving away, with her still in the car and the back door wide open. I ran to his door and started banging on it trying to get him to stop the car while the girl in the back was screaming, kicking the back window as hard as she could with her heels trying to break it (out of spite). He slammed on the breaks, got out of the car, picked her up out of the car and threw her on the pavement, then sped off. Her head hit the pavement pretty hard, but she wasn't bleeding. She was obviously very traumatized, it was a terrible ending to such a great night.
The worst part was, there was a guy standing on the side walk, watching the whole thing happen. Then after the cab drove off, a couple minutes later he leisurely walked over and asked if there was anything he could do. Um, where were you 5 minutes ago, buddy? Thanks for absolutely nothing. And we were all so preoccupied, no one got a cab number, a license plate, nothing. We all walked her back up to her apartment, she called Jonathan, our program coordinator, and he came and took her to the hospital.
From there, Emily and I still had to walk home to our apartment. Most of the streets from their apartment to ours are nice and lit up, except for one. When we were walking down that road, we were approaching a man who was by himself. He stopped and let us pass him, and then started walking behind us. Suddenly, out of nowhere, he went SPRINTING past us, trying to grab Emily's purse as he went by. Thank God she was wearing a cross body so he couldn't take it, but it scared both of us to death!
We finally got home...in 1 piece! We both crashed and took a nap, before we got up 3 hours later for class!
